Ice Cream

“Ice Cream” is a short film that encapsulates the life of a Romany girl exploring her surroundings while mischievously escaping from her home in search of ice cream. Ruby follows the melody of the ice cream chimes, a sound so prevalent in British childhoods, and sneaks away from her older brother’s watchful eye. The film follows Ruby into the innocence of childhood, her not understanding the potential danger she could be in. As Ruby takes us on this adventure, we are introduced to her kind-faced father, who becomes a pivotal role within Ruby’s journey. Romani filmmaker Millie Cooper aims to portray the Romani community in their everyday lives, stripping away the “mystery” often associated with them.
