Charles Newland
Charles Newland is an award-winning British director of Romani-Gypsy heritage from Nottingham, UK. He is founder of film collective Notown Films and an original member of the International Romani Film Commission. He's winner of Shane Meadows short film award for “The Decision”, realized BBC commissions (“The Two-Wheeled Terrors”, 2019) and won the Best Short Film at AKE DIKHEA? in 2021 for “Erode”. In 2023, he attended “A Sunday in the Country” in Montenegro and became a full member of the European Film Academy. His works were featured by Tate, BBC, VICE, BFI, and The Guardian – and also been screened at a variety of international film festivals.
