We are looking for films that critically reflect the lives of Roma* and Sinti* and for productions in which critically reflect the lives of Roma* and Sinti*, as well as for productions in which with Roma or Sinti identities are involved. Roma* and Sinti* as well as self-organisations can give us film recommendations, Roma and non-Roma filmmakers are cordially invited to submit their films.

Background information
AKE DIKHEA? translates as "Do you see?". It is a self-organised international Roma film festival taking place in Berlin in October 2023. The festival presents societies around the world from the perspective of Sinti* and Roma*: Through which films do we feel represented, which issues are important to us, how do we see ourselves and how do we want to be seen? We don't want to wait for someone to give us a voice. We want to help shape the social space ourselves and decide on the topics and the form of the festival events.
The festival is organised by the Berlin Roma* self-organisation RomaTrial and it takes place in the traditional cinema BABYLON as well as in the Grüner Salon of the Volksbühne in Berlin-Mitte.

Selection procedure
The International Roma Film Festival AKE DIKHEA? stands for a unique participatory unique, participatory selection process: Thanks to our worldwide networks of (Roma) filmmakers, we are able to discover themes and perspectives that would otherwise remain hidden or have only a local or national impact. The whole process is highly inclusive:
Between 01.05.2023 and 30.06.2023, we are collecting proposals and and applications for films from different Roma and Sinti communities, actors and individuals.
Artistic director Hamze Bytyçi and co-curator Lisa Smith are looking for select about 10 - 20 short and feature-length films to be presented at the festival.
During the festival (23.10. - 29.10.2023), an international jury - Roma and non-Roma filmmakers - will meet to select the Best Short Film and Best Film. The visitors of the
festival will then award an audience prize.
We accept all film genres and lengths. We accept films by Roma and non-Roma filmmakers with the highest degree of Reflection of prejudices against Sinti* and Roma*.

We accept films by Roma and non-Roma filmmakers with the highest level of reflection of prejudices against Sinti* and Roma*.

The submission of films via Google form is free of charge. For the registration via FilmFreeWay we charge a symbolic fee of 1,- euro.

It is possible to register short films as well as feature-length films, we accept all film genres.

We accept films regardless of the year of production. We prefer films that were completed in the years 2022 and 2023.

Each individual or organisation may propose a maximum of five feature-length films and ten short films.

If the film is not in English, it must have English subtitles.
- We do not accept unfinished films. We ask that you only propose and register completed films that are ready for public screening. After the deadline for applications it will no longer be possible to submit a new version of the film.
