︎ Avazya Network @ EFA’s Sunday In The Country

27.4.2023

We are thrilled that the AVAZYA Film Professionals Network was invited as collaborating partner of the European Film Academy’s project “Sunday in the Country”!

We had the exclusive opportunity to recommend Charles Newland, a Romani filmmaker from the UK to attend this unique networking and knowledge sharing event between 21st and 24th April 2023. The meeting took place in the beautiful mountains of Montenegro, hosted by the Film Centre of Montenegro together with the European Film Academy.

A dynamic group of 9 talented young European filmmakers got together, along with two prolific members of the European Film Academy Ada Solomon and Jukka-Pekka Laakso. The private atmosphere guaranteed a platform for inspiration and for an open-minded encounter.

The idea of “Sunday in the Country” is to learn from each other through exchanges of experiences and to build border-crossing personal networks. The subjects that are intensively discussed can vary from financing and production conditions in the home countries of the young filmmakerswho are curious to learn about their colleagues’ personal conditions, their cultural backgrounds, their different ways of storytelling and technical questions. Also screenings and discussions about films, life and inspirations, mountain hikes, stunning views, and excellent regional food were part of the weekend.

“My participation in ‘Sunday in the Country’ has been a wonderful experience – to visit the beautiful country of Montenegro and meet fellow film professionals from around Europe has been a joy. This has been a great opportunity to show my films and also to raise awareness of and discuss the AVAZYA Network, AKE DIKHEA? Film Festival and Roma film in general. Thank you to Film Centre of Montenegro and European Film Academy for organising the event and being great hosts.”

Charles Newland, filmmaker, last year’s jury member of AKE DIKHEA? and AVAZYA member

The other participants were Carolina Cavalli (Italy), Gana Čomagić (Montenegro), Mo Harawe (Austria), Tadeusz Łysiak (Poland), Andrija Mugoša (Montenegro), Norika Sefa (Kosovo), Bojan Stijović (Montenegro) and Eleonora Veninova (North Macedonia).

We thank to the EFA for getting us on board for this wonderful programme! We are working on further joint actions, stay tuned for more information!
